The Hi-Lo

The Hi-Lo in Chicago’s Humboldt Park, designed by Siren Betty Design, is a neighborhood cocktail bar that balances luxury and ease. Housed in a restored 1898 building and adjacent A-frame, the space mixes historical character with modern warmth for a sophisticated yet comfortable drinking experience.

The Hi-Lo takes its name from the buildings it occupies: a circa 1898 three-story structure and the small A-frame beside it. The name also reflects the bar’s duality — luxe yet casual, sophisticated yet comfortable, fresh yet lived in. Inspiration came from Humboldt Park’s layers of history, from European immigrants of the late 19th century to the vibrancy of its Hispanic community. The palette draws from the area’s architecture: green oxidized copper, terra-cotta brick, and gray stone. Furniture forms and upholstery patterns nod to different eras, coming together in a warm, timeless composition that feels like The Hi-Lo has always been here.
