SBD's Dream Getaways

Whether it’s a big city or a quiet little beach town, the ladies of SBD are always up for a getaway. To see some of the places we’ve been dreaming of visiting, check out our list below, starting with a staycation in our beautiful city!

The Publishing House Bed & Breakfast: Chicago, IL

This BnB will always have a special place in our hearts. Collaborating on the design and adding our flair to it makes it feel like home. Living in the heart of the West Loop, The Publishing House is the perfect space for a little staycation. Little quirks make the space comfortable but high-end. The space is full of offbeat art and lush carpets plus warm walls and cozy shared spaces. Make sure you savor the homemade breakfasts by the way, because you’ll crave them when you’re gone.

The Parker: Palm Springs, CA

Moving from our mellow hometown environment into a bright mid century modern getaway. The Parker has always captured our attention with its tropical feeling and colors. The pool deck looks like it was stripped from ‘La La Land,’ and the Counter-Reformation bar brings in a fun latin vibe. We also love the statement silver elephant head featured in one of their bedrooms. The grounds offer plenty of fun activities like tennis, croquet, and petanque (Plus a spa if you’re just looking to lounge). Next time we’re in palm springs we will definitely be spending our nights here.

The Intercontinental Amstel: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Hopping across the Atlantic and over to Amsterdam for our next getaway. Not only is this castle gorgeous on the outside (that view!) but the interiors boast a classic elegance. The entryway is a vision in white with dark metallic accents including the chandeliers resting in each archway of the lobby. The grand staircase adds to the opulent feeling of the historic building. The rooms’ color stories are interesting as well. Each one has a hue of either blue, gold or red that can mostly be seen on the furniture upholstery but is sometimes also laid on the walls. If you’re looking to feel lavish while in the Netherlands, this is the place to stay. Be sure to take a boat ride down the canal and always have a stroopwafel with your tea.

The Fairmont: Jaipur, India

Off to another oasis, but in Asia this time. Jaipur’s Fairmont is a palace in the pink city. The hotel captures the richness of India’s history and culture by highlighting its architecture and design with accents that bring it into our modern times. Some of our favorite accents are the carved wood. From the seats in the restaurant to posts on the bed, and pillars the intricate details show through in classic form. The wall additions draw our eyes too, the speckled blue in the dining room, plus the vine illustrations in the bedroom add an additional feeling of luxury without being overwhelming. On the exterior, we like the turquoise and coral painted archways, they liven up the building which already stands out with its domes and classic Mughal style.
